Trampled By Turtles Boulder Theater Trampled by Turtles is Dave Simonett, Tim Saxhaug (bass, vocals), Dave Carroll (banjo, vocals), Erik Berry and Ryan Young (fiddle). Within the contained music scene of Duluth, the members of the band did their own time in punk and rock bands, brandishing their electricity proudly before switching to acoustic instruments. While they never set out to be a bluegrass band, Trampled by Turtles employs many of the same traditional techniques of the genre, but their differences in influences, attitude and attack make for their unique sound. The group is most famous for its high-tempo, fast-paced, intelligent songs but also features lead vocalist Dave Simonett's lyric writing abilities in slower ballads. Their high-energy concerts have attracted an ever-growing, dedicated fan following. doors 8pm / show 9pm 16+
Mariachi El Bronx w/Two Gallants Fox Theatre "Going acoustic and dressing in black charro outfits is probably the punkest move they could have taken; El Bronx negotiate in exactly the same way as The Bronx they don't. They fear nothing, explore everything and create from the rawest of emotion, making imperfections the very best bits.NME Punk rock. Mariachi. Two great tastes that go great together er, right? Well, anyway, the two joined regardless one fateful August day in 2006, when The Bronx showed up to play on a television show. At the time, the Los Angeles-based punks were infamous for scabrous rifferama that suggested a return to L.A.s golden age of hardcore (its not coincidence that the band portrayed Black Flag in the Darby Crash biopic What We Do Is Secret, or went on their first tour with the Circle Jerks). The show requested the band play an acoustic version of Dirty Leaves off the bands second, self-titled album a request that didn't sit well. Going unplugged was a 90s fad that I had a knee-jerk reaction to dislike, notes guitarist Joby J. Ford. We wanted to do something a little bit different. Indeed, The Bronx took it one irreverent step further, donning uncharacteristic sombreros and arranging the song as a mariachi lament. We never wanted The Bronx to be a soft, quiet band, says frontman Matt Caughthran, but this freed up a whole new realm. Sometimes you don't realize the barriers around yourself until you step outside them. It was a big moment in our career, breathing new life into the band. Says Caughthran, the greatest thing about our band, and the most torturous, is that its unpredictable for us too! We don't know where the chaos will take us, but that's a good thing its always exciting. Honesty, heart and the will to do things no one else is doing remain the driving force: I'm not saying were the best band on the planet, but were pretty good. When we put the charro suits on, we feel invincible. 8pm doors / 9pm show all ages Two Gallants opens

Tom Hagerman (of Devotchka) Larimer Lounge Tom Hagerman is best known for his multi-instrumentalist role in the genre-defying band DeVotchKa, and for performing on recordings by M Ward, Crooked Fingers, She and Him, Micah P. Hinson, Bettye Lavette, Mercury Rev, Amos Lee and Sage Francis, among others. In the world of film, Tom provided score contributions both with DeVotchKa in "Little Miss Sunshine" and more recently on Calexico's score for "The Guard" and Zooey Deschanel's songs in "Winnie the Pooh."
Tom started playing music at age 7. He stumbled his way through his teenage years playing in various public school orchestras and regional youth symphonies before winding up in Boulder to study violin at the University of Colorado. During his time at the University, he found himself playing bass guitar in a goth band while landing himself a 10 week summer stint in an orchestra at the decidedly un-goth Disney World in Florida. "I can vividly recall playing in the orchestra accompanying Toni Tennille on her hit song "Love Will Keep us Together" all the while hearing Joy Division's "Love will Tear Us Apart" in my head. Excluding a year as a bike messenger in New York City, Tom Hagerman has been a member of DeVotchKa since 1997 and also a member of the currently slumbering seminal Denver band, the Denver. 8pm doors / 9pm show 21+

Horse Feathers w/The Barr Brothers Bluebird Theatre New Year's Eve always suggests a new beginning, and "Cynics New Year" welcomes Horse Feathers' fans with the promise of something new. To be sure, old friends return. Wrapped around Justin Ringle's unique vocals are sparkling guitars, dancing fiddles, and smoky banjo woven through the foundation of the lower strings. But new elements are everywhere: horn, woodwind and brass appear and fade, and drums drive the beat in places, providing new texture and heft. The lyrics traverse familiar themes from natural disaster to the deeply personal, each through Justin Ringle's uniquely American linguistic lens. New vistas and new stories are explored with deep insight and fresh intimacy, always with an abiding respect and affection. The universe rises to threaten, inspire, and sometimes punish, but always to teach a valuable lesson. Souls, lost and found, embark on thoughtful emotional journeys. The first single, Fit against the Country, describes a nation where working men and women shoulder their careworn lives with neither apology nor surrender. These are words that need to be held close, owing their poignance as much to the savor of their pure sound as to their meaning. Where Ill Be, another single from this brilliant collection, has an infectious rhythmic cadence that marks it as one of the great songs evoking trains, with a compelling sentiment that belies the gray landscape it travels. Again joining Justin is instrumental co-conspirator Nathan Crockett, accompanied by a gathering of gifted Northwest musicians. "Cynics New Year" does not fail to deliver something beautiful and new. It navigates a thoughtful, thought-provoking expedition from the wide sky and rolling ocean to the most private corners of the human heart. 16+ 8pm doors/9pm show

Blitzen Trapper Bluebird Theatre Blitzen Trapper is a five-member indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. They are touring in support of their latest release, American Goldwing, which, band member and songwriter Eric Early describes as "entering into the sounds we grew up with, the hard guitar rock and country picking of our younger years mixes with glimmers of our usual space-aging technology and pawn shop Casio aplomb. Heavy guitar riffs and blasting drum fills live side-by-side with plucking banjos and wailing harmonicas, and muddy slide guitars that make you want to shotgun a beer in the shower while listening to the Stones or Joe Walsh. Its also our first foray into direct, outside influence in the creation of a record. It's me letting go in a certain way. I let Tchad Blake come in to mix this album, and my good friend Gregg Williams co-produced all these tracks." 7pm doors / 8pm show 16+

Balkan Beat Box The Summit Music Hall Balkan Beat Box first burst out of New York City's underground music scene with a self-titled debut that introduced the world to their Mediterranean-inflected, globalized electronica sound. Founded by Israeli-born ex-pats Ori Kaplan (ex-Gogol Bordello), Tamir Muskat (ex-Firewater), the band built their reputation on explosive live shows. BBB soon added frequent collaborator Tomer Yosef as front man and his wild onstage energy has been galvanizing live audiences ever since.
Inspired by last years people's protest movements across the globe from the Arab Spring, to Occupy Wall Street, to Israel's own massive social protests, Balkan Beat Box's new album "Give" captures the cautious hope and re-energized spirit of our time.
Brimming over with handcrafted beats and samples, and recorded primarily at Tel Aviv's Vibromonk East studio, Give was conceived of as a smaller, more introverted album, according to Ori Kaplan. "This is our most hardcore album so far," says Tamir Muskat. Definitely musically there's more of a harder-edged, electronic sound. The songs and their subjects are also kind of darker and more political. 8pm doors / 9pm show 18+

Steve Martin & Steep Canyon Rangers / Emmylou Harris / Arlo Guth Red Rocks ABOUT EMMYLOU HARRIS & HER RED DIRT BOYS A twelve-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris contribution as a singer and songwriter spans 40 years. She has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Blessed with a crystalline voice, a remarkable gift for phrasing, and a restless creative spirit, she traveled a singular artistic path. With the exception of only Neil Young not surprisingly an occasional collaborator no other mainstream star established a similarly large body of work as consistently iconoclastic, eclectic, or daring; even more than three decades into her career, Harris' latter-day music remained as heartfelt, visionary, and vital as her earliest recordings. Already celebrated as a discoverer and interpreter of other artists songs, 12-time Grammy Award winner Emmylou Harris has, in the last decade, gained admiration as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing.
ABOUT STEVE MARTIN & THE STEEP CANYON RANGERS They have delighted audiences at Bonnaroo, New Orleans' Jazzfest and Rockygrass, to name a few. They've embarked on four widely acclaimed tours with critics such as The Orange County Register noting what's so heartening and wonderful to see is Steve Martin back on stage, doing both things he does best: playing banjo and being funny. Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers latest album Rare Bird Alert debuted at #1 on Billboards Bluegrass Chart and at #43 on the Billboard Top 200. The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album and features 13 new Martin-penned tracks, including a live version of King Tut, and special guest vocals from Paul McCartney and the Dixie Chicks.
ABOUT ARLO GUTHRIE is an American folk singer. Like his deceased father, Woody Guthrie, Arlo is known for singing songs of protest against social injustice. One of Guthrie's better-known works is "Alice's Restaurant Massacree", a satirical talking blues song about 18 minutes in length. Over the last four decades Guthrie has toured throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia winning a wide, popular following. In addition to his accomplishments as a musician, playing the piano, six and twelve-string guitar, harmonica and a dozen other instruments, Arlo is a natural-born storyteller, whose tales and anecdotes figure prominently in his performances. doors 6pm / show 7pm all ages

B.B. King / Tedeschi Trucks Band Red Rocks About B.B. King - Throughout the 1990's as well as the 1980's, 1970's, 1960's and 1950's, there has been only one King of the Blues - Riley B. King, affectionately known as B.B. King. Since B.B. started recording in the late 1940's, he has released over 60 albums many of them considered blues classics, like 1965's definitive live blues album "Live At The Regal", and 1976's collaboration with Bobby "Blue" Bland, "Together For The First Time".
Soon after his number one hit, "Three O'Clock Blues", B.B. began touring nationally, and he has never stopped, performing an average of 125 concerts a year. In 1956 B.B. and his band played an astonishing 342 one night stands. From the chitlin circuit with its small town cafes, ghetto theaters, country dance halls, and roadside joints to jazz clubs, rock palaces, symphony concert halls, college concerts, resort hotels and prestigious concert halls nationally and internationally, B.B. has become the most renowned blues musician of the past 60 years.
About Tedeschi Trucks Band - In February of 2012, Sony Masterworks proudly announced that the Tedeschi Trucks Band has won a Grammy Award for their album, Revelator, in the Best Blues Album category. Led by the husband-wife team of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks, Revelator is the debut album from the couples new 11-piece ensemble, Tedeschi Trucks Band. Tedeschi Trucks Band delivers everything you'd expect and more from Tedeschi's powerful voice and Trucks' flawless guitar. The all-star lineup has been praised by concert goers nationwide for their brilliant musicianship and roof-raising performances of Revelator favorites like "Come See About Me," "Midnight in Harlem" and "Bound for Glory" as well as their creative take on a few choice covers from Tedeschi and Trucks' wide-ranging musical influences.

Esperanza Spaulding: Radio Music Society Bassist, vocalist, composer Esperanza Spalding unveils the brilliant compositions of her new release, Radio Music Society into a dynamic big band format. Inspired by her desire to write for a large ensembles, Spalding has crafted her performances to spotlight the talents of her 12-piece world class band including Spalding on electric bass, double bass and lead vocals; Leo Genovese, piano, Rhodes and keyboards; Chris Turner, backing vocals; Tia Fuller, alto saxophone, backing vocals and music director; Lyndon Rochelle, drums and backing vocals; Jef Lee Johnson, electric guitar and backing vocals; Jeff Galindo, trombone; Corey King, trombone; Igmar Thomas, trumpet; Leala Cyr, trumpet and backing vocals; Dan Blake, tenor and soprano saxophones; and Aaron Burnett, tenor saxophone. Weaving high-caliber artists into the context of a big band could be a challenge, but not for Spalding. Her ability to combine musical styles makes her writing accessible to audiences across the spectrum.
Radio Music Society is a companion release, rather than a sequel, to Spaldings previous internationally acclaimed Chamber Music Society, which culminated in her winning the Best New Artist GRAMMY Award in 2011. Radio Music Society is her most diverse, ambitious and masterful recital yet. Each of the 12 songs is accompanied by conceptual music videos, which further express Spaldings inspiration and story behind each track.
Spaldings dynamic performances are nothing less than exhilarating when experienced live. As Jeff Baker of The Oregonian once wrote, This was about art, performed at the highest level by someone with the vision, talent, and determination to make it happen. 7:00 pm doors / 8:00 pm show all ages
